Former Karnataka chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah announced on Wednesday that this Assembly election may be his last in electoral politics. The southern state will vote on May 10 and the results will be announced on May 13.

In these elections, the BJP has positioned senior ministers V Somanna and Siddaramaiah against each other in the Varuna Assembly segment, and R Ashoka against Shivakumar in Kanakapura.
Aspirant to the position of chief minister if the Congress comes to power, the senior Congress leader on Wednesday filed his nomination papers from the Varuna constituency, from which he had twice won. After defeating Varuna in 2008, he became the leader of the opposition.
The 75-year-old, eight-time MLA had previously won twice from Varuna, became the Leader of the Opposition after winning from here in 2008, and then became the Chief Minister following the 2013 Assembly elections.
In the 2018 election, Siddaramaiah ran from neighboring Chamundeshwari and Badami in Bagalkote district in addition to his home constituency. He had lost in Chamundeshwari, but triumphed in Badami.
