Renewed Hope Advocates (RHA), a group that supports Bola Tinubu for president, has issued a warning to those who are vying for leadership posts in the 10th National Assembly to steer clear of campaigns that are based on religion or ethnicity because these types of campaigns are ultimately ineffective.
Olufemi-Daniels Agbaoku, the Director-General of the organization, issued a statement in which he claimed that the path that the campaigns for the post of Senate President and House Speakership have assumed is becoming unsettling because of the purposeful move to introduce religion and ethnic cards into it.
The election of President-elect Bola Tinubu was one of the biggest lessons.
According to him, “One of the greatest takeaways from the election of the President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu, is that it has defeated religion in the politics of our nation with his Muslim-Muslim ticket, and all we have to do now is sustain that effort and take out that enemy of Nigeria (religion) from Nigeria’s politics.” This was one of the greatest takeaways from the election of the President-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu.
“After all, this is not the first time that we have had leadership in the National Assembly from people who adhere to the same faith, and the sky has not fallen. In point of fact, Muslims never made a big deal out of the matter. However, Christians cannot keep fanning the flames of religious politics because doing so is ultimately a sign of defeatism.
“In our not-too-distant past, we had David Mark and Ike Ekweremadu head the National Assembly leadership. Both were Christians and while they did not pander to feelings, they stood firm on the positions they held without compromising their principles. We need to move forward from this, and the 10th National Assembly gives us the opportunity to do so.
According to Agbaoku, “If we recall, running a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket appeared the biggest challenge for Asiwaju Tinubu, but the man held his ground, because he knew what damage religion has done to the fabric of our politics, and God eventually used him to kill that monster in our politics.” Agbaoku made this assertion.
